The Parish of Ewhurst and Ellens Green
The Church
The Church is a Grade 1 listed building. It has stood at the heart of our village both as a building and part of the community for around nine centuries. The oldest surviving walls of the
Norman nave date back to 1140 making it one of the oldest churches in Surrey. It's peace and charm make it a popular choice for weddings and for other celebrations. There are services each Sunday of different styles to meet the needs of our worshippers, young and old. The south transept contains an area for children with books and bags of toys.
The Wilson Room
We have the fabulous resource of The Wilson Room which is a welcoming and a popular social area especially for refreshments served after services. It was built in 2010, due to the generosity of parishioners Peter and Audrey Wilson and dedicated by the Bishop of Dorking. Located in the churchyard, it has easy access from the church and rectory. It has a beautiful oak-beamed, large communal room, a fully equipped servery, disabled toilets and is home to the Parish Office. The Wilson Room has allowed the Church to broaden its ministry with a range of activities and groups including our baby and toddler group, social events, and meetings. The Wilson Room is a fantastic resource for the village.
The Churchyard & Garden of Remembrance
Our Churchyard is a historic and important part of our Church. If you wander around the site, you will see graves going back many generations. However, now the Churchyard is no longer used for burials; instead we inter ashes in our Garden of Remembrance, located in the southeast corner of the Churchyard. Beside the Garden of Remembrance is a Memorial Wall that was built in 2017 and dedicated by the Bishop of Dorking to commemorate those whose ashes are buried. Careful management of the Churchyard is important and we strictly adhere to the Diocese of Guildford Churchyard Regulations 2022.
The Rectory
The Rectory is a lovely family home for our Priest-in-Charge. It has the advantage of being less than a minutes walk from their place of work !
